Book Club is sponsored by Carol Stream Woman’s Club but includes members and non-members. We meet once a month at a member’s home and enjoy discussing the month’s selection as well as refreshments and social “girl-friend” time. We don’t meet on a specific day of the month but the hostess for that month sets the day and time and sends out information via email. The information is also posted on the Woman’s Club’s Facebook page.
We welcome new members – come try us out. For information, call 630-200-3944 or email email@example.com
Book Club Notes
Thanks to Cindy Alston for hosting the October discussion on “The Dive from Clausen’s Pier” by Ann Packer. The reviews on the book were mixed but it lead to another great discussion!
The November selection is “Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and a Culture in Crisis” by J. D. Vance. This book is about the Appalachian values of his Kentucky family and their relation to the social problems of his hometown of Middletown, Ohio, where his mother’s parents moved when they were young.
The group will meet on Monday, December 2nd at Nancy Olson’s home at 7 PM. Please remember to RSVP on Meetup or contact Nancy directly so she can arrange for proper seating and snacks.
This is the last discussion group for 2019!! We have book selection through May of 2020, so if you like to read ahead, the January book is “The Alice Network” by Kate Quinn. This is a long book, so I suggest an early start. I listened to it recently on audiobook and even that took a while. I learned a lot about the women spy network during WW2. I think you will enjoy it and also learn a lot.
Have a great holiday season and we’ll catch up again in January!
